Praga Bohema: A Hypercar Designed for Track and Road

The Praga Bohema, the first production car from the Czech automaker in nearly eight decades, has officially entered the market. After unveiling the pre-production prototype just two years ago, Praga has now delivered its first customer car, marking the end of a seven-year development journey. Weighing just 1,000 kg (2,300 lbs) and capable of reaching a top speed of 317 km/h (197 mph), the Bohema is a bold attempt to blend lightweight performance and track-ready engineering with road-legal compliance.

A Return to Road Car Production

Czech automotive manufacturer Praga’s return to road car manufacturing marks a significant shift for the company, which has spent decades focusing on motorsport. The Bohema draws on this heritage with a design inspired by racing principles, aiming to balance race car agility with everyday practicality. Its construction features extensive use of carbon fiber for both the body and monocoque chassis, achieving a weight far below typical hypercars.

At its heart is a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine delivering 700 bhp. Combined with its lightweight design, this enables the Bohema to offer a top-tier performance experience. The car’s advanced braking system, featuring carbon ceramic discs, and an adjustable suspension system allow it to excel on both the track and the road. This dual-purpose capability is a key aspect of its appeal.

Design and Customization

The Bohema prioritizes aerodynamic efficiency, with a package refined in a Formula 1 wind tunnel. Each car is hand-built and personalized, offering bespoke finishes such as bare carbon or gold leaf. Production is capped at fewer than 20 units annually, emphasizing exclusivity and craftsmanship.

With its low production volume, the Bohema caters to a niche market of enthusiasts seeking a hypercar that bridges track and road capabilities. While its performance and design are compelling, the Bohema enters a competitive market dominated by brands with longstanding reputations in both racing and road cars. Whether Praga’s focus on lightweight performance will resonate with buyers remains to be seen.
